Qualified finance professionals know what they’re worth, often to within a few thousand pounds. In today’s market, a £5,000 difference can determine whether your preferred candidate joins your team or someone else’s.

But salary is only part of the picture. Finance hiring has become increasingly selective. Employers are hiring more cautiously, whilst experienced professionals remain in high demand for commercially focused roles. The strongest candidates often have multiple opportunities available to them, making it more important than ever to understand not just what to pay, but how your offer compares in the wider market.

This guide brings together our latest 2026 salary benchmarks, alongside the market intelligence we’ve gathered through placing finance professionals across London and the UK. You’ll find realistic salary ranges, hiring insights and practical advice to help you benchmark roles, attract the right talent and make informed hiring decisions in a competitive market.

Key Insights

  • This finance salary guide gives you the real benchmarks for 2026, the honest market context behind them, and an effective way to use both.
  • The skills demand-supply gap inside UK financial services is widening.
  • AI fluency is being directly priced into Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant offers.
  • Hybrid policy is a pound figure on the offer letter whether you write it there or not.

Why this Finance Salary Guide is important in 2026?

The State of Finance Hiring in 2026: What HR Leaders Are Up Against

The qualified accountant shortage is getting worse

Qualified UK membership keeps growing, but student numbers are in ‘minimal decline’, per the FRC’s Key Facts and Trends in the Accountancy Profession 2025 (23rd edition, October 2025). At the same time, 48 of FTSE 350 audits are now performed by firms outside the Big Four, up from 41 in 2023. That reallocation pulls senior-finance pay levels upward at Crowe, BDO, Forvis Mazars, RSM and similar firms staffing PIE audits. If you run a mid-market commerce-and-industry finance function, that’s where your next Financial Controller offer is being out-bid.

Technology skills are reshaping every finance role

AI fluency is being directly priced into Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant offers. The ACCA Global Talent Trends 2025 survey (10,000-plus respondents across 175 countries) found 50 per cent of finance professionals worry they aren’t developing the skills their future workplace will demand, but only 32 per cent say their employer offers AI training. The gap between what candidates want and what employers fund is the cheapest, sharpest retention lever in this guide. It costs less than a £5k base bump and lands much harder.

Hybrid working is now a compensation variable

Hybrid policy is a pound figure on the offer letter whether you write it there or not. The CIPD Flexible and Hybrid Working Practices Report 2025 found 74 per cent of UK organisations now offer hybrid, down from 84 per cent in 2023, with 65 per cent mandating a minimum number of office days. Three per cent of UK employees, around 1.1 million workers, left a job in the year to January 2025 specifically because flexibility wasn’t on offer. Among finance professionals, 76 per cent told ACCA they want hybrid. It’s important to price that into your return-to-office policy.

How Career Moves Group Approaches Finance Salary Benchmarking

Treat us as the data source that updates between the salary guides you do read. Every benchmarking conversation we have with a client starts from the most recent ASHE and PAYE RTI release, layered with our current placement activity and the brief in front of us. As a B Corp, we benchmark the total package across base, flexibility, progression and environmental purpose. If you’re rethinking finance recruitment in London this year, that’s the point to start with.

How to Use This Finance Salary Guide to Strengthen Your Hiring Strategy

Step 1: Audit your existing team’s salaries.

Cross-check every current role against the ranges above and against the ONS ASHE 2025 4-digit dataset. Flag anyone more than 10 per cent below the midpoint of their band, before someone else does it for you.

Step 2: Set the salary before you write the spec.

The most expensive benchmarking mistake is the one made after offer rejection. Start with ONS occupation data, layer in live recruiter context from your finance recruitment partners, then write the spec to the salary you can pay.

Step 3: Build the full package around the base.

Bonus structure, equity or LTIP for scale-up offers, hybrid policy with its real costed risk, employer-funded qualifications, AI training and progression you can describe in specifics rather than slogans.

Step 4: Move quickly.

The candidates worth hiring have multiple live conversations. Internal sign-off processes that take six weeks lose to processes that take two.

Career Moves Group benchmarks every finance role we recruit for against ONS data, live market activity and your specific brief, so the offer you make wins first time. Get in touch or browse our current finance jobs in London.
