Earlier this year Career Moves were the proud sponsors of the Practically Perfect PA Assist Conference, and held a prize draw for the Assistants that attended the day. Last week, Sarah (Head of Career Moves Support) and Harriet (Head of Marketing and Events), were thrilled to catch up with the winner of the prize draw, Susan Dawes (PA to EMEA VPs at Prometric).
Susan attended the conference for her own personal development and to help further her career. She took away many valuable insights from the day including information around neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and the practicalities of using this in the role of an Assistant. Susan, like many Assistants, really values her own development and understands the importance of continually evolving to be a success. In most instances Assistants have to be the driving force behind their development and really take ownership of seeking out opportunities to keep progressing.
The role of the Assistant, like Susan’s role, has changed massively over the past few years. To keep up with the pressures of supporting a senior Exec in an ever-changing workplace, it is essential to keep adapting and learning for a successful career as an EA. Susan has shared some of her top tips below as to how she maintains her own personal development:
- Communicate with managers and HR about what your job involves and what you are actually doing – do you want more work or do you have too much?
- Meet up with other PA/ EA’s and join in networking opportunities.
- If you want to get involved in other areas of the business, make sure you ask and let your managers know that this would interest you.
Thanks again to Susan, and we hope you enjoy spending your voucher prize!
