For the past 12 years Career Moves has been involved with the Career Ready program which prepares young people in 6th Form for the workforce. Spearheaded by Sherryl Karpell and with a group of Career Moves employees, once a month she leads a session at Queens Park Community School for the students in the Career Ready program.

Last week we attended the second session of the year and worked with the students on what they deemed to be appropriate and not in the workplace as compared to work.

They looked at things including the way they spoke to colleagues as compared to when they were with their friends, how they might dress at work as compared to school, showing initiative and being proactive and overall what their general behaviour at work should be as compared to school.

In groups they then performed skits showing good and bad behaviour around a particular theme followed by a group discussion. All the students were really involved and engaged and ultimately these sessions will prepare them for their work placement in July 2017.

We look forward to our next session in January.
