Career Moves kicked off the 2015 Career Ready UK programme at Queen’s Park Community School (QPCS) this week with an interactive session for sixth form students exploring the qualities of being a fantastic employee.
Career Moves has partnered with QPCS and Career Ready, a programme designed to provide young people with the skills needed to excel within the workplace, for nearly 10 years. Each year, up to 20 sixth form students have the opportunity to participate in the programme, which also includes a six-week work placement.
The first session was designed to introduce students to the programme and get them thinking about what makes a fantastic employee. Split into teams, the students identified around 50 qualities needed to be a good employee from timekeeping and communication to motivation and ambition.
Career Moves’ Career Ready programme leader Sheryll Karpel said, “The idea behind the Career Ready programme is to provide students with the training and knowledge to excel within the workplace and become fantastic employees.
“As an introduction to the programme, the first session aims to get students thinking about the sort of qualities a good employee should possess, and what they should be working towards throughout year.
“I’ve been working with QPCS for many years and, without fail, the students are incredibly enthusiastic and hard-working. Every year we see different perspectives and opinions, which means we are continually learning along with the students too!”
Throughout the year students will be able to attend monthly skills workshops, have access to one-to-one mentors and participate in a four to six week paid internship. Previous internships have included Citigroup, Halifax and Fundsmith.
