On Thursday morning we hosted our HR event; “Millennials and Meditation in the Workplace” with guest speaker, Susan Peacock.
With 40 HR professionals in the room, Head of HR Recruitment - Media, Digital and Creative, Alex Biagioni kicked off the morning by introducing the new Career Moves HR Division line up before listening to Susan’s brilliant presentation.
Susan kicked off the morning with a meditation which ensured everyone was present in the room. She then spoke about the IPA research that has just been done – 45% of the workforce is aged 30 and under – this is a huge percentage of millennials working in our workforce today. And what brings them to your company? The top 5 drawcards were creativity, fun, brand innovation and learning & development opportunities.
However, keeping millennials has been a major issue for many companies, with the top 5 things to keep a millennial motivated including: their colleagues, atmosphere, learning and development opportunities, love of the job and their boss.
Many organisations are now introducing mindfulness meditation as a means to help not only millennials in the workplace but all employees. The reason being was to help people manage daily stress, build personal effectiveness, assist with energy and performance and focus on emotional health and wellbeing. Research has also shown that it improves sleep, mental agility, creativity and innovation, listening and communications skills, builds resilience and helps people focus more.
The presentation concluded with a mindfulness mediation followed by a thought provoking Q&A session with lots of great questions and discussion.
We had great feedback with participants saying:
“Fantastic practical advice on introducing meditation to the workplace”
“Interaction with the group, not just a sit and listen type of event”
“She was fab – very calming”
“Combo of facts and talking around the value of mindfulness – well presented”
“The mindfulness/ meditation that we did at the beginning and half way through the session was brilliant”
Thank you to Susan and to all the participants who joined us. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
