Job description:

  • This organisation is looking for a trending entertainment writer to join the team.

  • You will play a key part in driving our entertainment and culture coverage as part of our area of focus on trending news. The content will be focused on trending entertainment news that is relevant to a UK audience, with a specific focus (but not exclusively) on UK television, UK celebrities, and movies.

  • You will work closely with the Entertainment News editors, audience team, and the front page team to cover the most talked about entertainment moments, using social media and search to identify trends around key titles, and your journalistic instincts to spot the important moments in a live, developing environment.

  • You will create rich, informed, memorable, and unique stories using established content formats that are SEO-friendly, accurate, and memorable and driven by a strong understanding of audience insights that helps build a loyal audience. You will also update our extensive bank of evergreen content with the latest news around TV and film releases, pop culture events, and showbiz personalities.

  • The ideal candidate will boast a deep passion for entertainment, and a strong understanding of the UK entertainment landscape. Some experience of covering trending events including live television, awards shows, and developing watercooler moments is preferred.

Key responsibilities:

  • Watching key titles on UK television and monitoring search and social media trends around UK-relevant TV, movies, and celebrities to create entertaining, informative and enlightening stories based on trending events from key shows. The writer will also share them on social media.

  • Reactively and proactively collaborating with the Audience team to ensure we’re across the biggest trends, and ensuring our bank of SEO-focussed content is regularly updated.

  • Keeping up to date with entertainment trends and viewer habits to inform our coverage and ensure it is informative and relevant to our audience.

  • Being aware of third party content from premium partner providers in the ecosystem in order to enrich our original content, and to share on our official social media channels.

  • Sourcing expert input, where applicable, to ensure content is informative and trusted.

Requirements:

  • Some experience sourcing, writing and building a wide range of entertainment content, including unscripted television, for a leading digital publisher

  • A passion for social media and the latest social media trends, as well as an interest in presenting to camera

  • A strong understanding of the UK entertainment industry

  • An ability to use SEO analytic tools, keyword research and audience insights to drive our content strategy

  • The ability to work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment with a proven ability to offer a different take on a big story

  • Has media law training, and preferably NCTJ qualified

  • If you are an experienced entertainment journalist who is passionate about pop culture, and is interested in experimenting with new ways of reporting trending news, we want to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and help shape our coverage in this area.

You will play a key part in driving our entertainment and culture coverage as part of our area of focus on trending news.
