Today we bring you a post from our Senior Resourcer, Esther Freyne, who is the epitome of adopting a positive work-life balance and the benefits of working remotely.
So many people blog about the pros/cons of working remotely from home… I opted out of the rat race!
I have been employed at Career Moves for several years, took an 8year gap to have kids - on returning I found myself stuck in London one afternoon, unable to get home due to train issues. The kids needed to be picked up, no one at hand to get them from after school club and this set me into panic mode. I had always been independent, having to rely on someone else didn’t sit well.
Since that stressful couple of hours in 2012, I have worked remotely– which works so well.
I have a set amount of hours when there is peace and quiet once the kids leave the front door for school. I think this gives me the focus and makes me self motivated to achieve what I need to in that time.
My day is spent on Facetime/ Skype or the phone instead interviewing potential candidates!
There are no distractions, I choose the music, no office politics, only one to make a cuppa for and I don’t have to share the office biccies or cakes.
I have no travelling issues, I am more accessible for the kids- so work life balance is brilliant!
